Majority Vs Minority

"Don't be afraid!" Elisha told him. "For there are more on our side than on theirs!" - 2 Kings 6 : 16

What would you do when you wake up and find you are surrounded by a vast army, with all their troops, horses and chariots everywhere?

Well, of course it won't really happen, surrounded by chariots and thousand of troops.

But imagine you're surrounded by problems. The moment you wake up, your phone rang non-stop, problems just pop-up everywhere. In whatever you do, you encounter difficulties.

At this moment, would you still say "I'm not afraid"? Elisha did, and he also said "there are more on our sides". I believed his servant at that time must have been scared out of his wits, thinking Elisha has gone berserk. But immediately his eyes are open, and he saw more chariots than those of the Arameans, and those are chariots of fire. Why? Because Elisha believed & trusted in God that he won against the vast army of Arameans

There is a song that goes like this:
When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you, above the storm
Father You are King over the flood
I will be still and know You are God
("Still" by: Hillsong)

If only we be still and believed in Him, nothing is impossible with God no matter what problems we are facing. We'll get through the problems, and that's God's promises for us. Someone once told me this; you might be the minority now, but when God is on your side you are the majority.

Strayed Arrow

1 Kings 22

On a beautiful morning, I opened my Bible, followed my Bible reading plan, and red this chapter. A story about King Ahab of Israel enticing King Jehoshaphat of Judah to help him retake Ramoth Gilead from the Arameans. To me, it's another story about the old Kings of Israel & Judah.

So, I went ahead and do my daily devotion. I got a book for my daily devotion as well. What I read exactly is the explanation for the story above. Then it just strikes me deeply.

King Ahab actually planning to get King Jehoshaphat killed, by letting him wear the king's robe. And King Ahab himself, disguised as the soldier of Israel. King Jehoshaphat almost got killed, but God didn't allowed it, He let a strayed arrow hit King Ahab instead.

Human can devise a plan, be it good or bad. But if it isn't the will of God, no plan would ever work out.

Not Always

I have observed something else under the sun. The fastest runner doesn't always win the race, and the strongest warrior doesn't always win the battle. The wise sometimes go hungry, and the skillful are not necessarily wealthy. And those who are educated don't always lead successful lives. It is all decided by chance, by being in the right place at the right time. - Ecclesiastes 9 : 11

I agreed that being skillful, wise, highly educated doesn't really guarantee success in live. But wait, it doesn't mean you shouldn't pursue your study, learn new skills, and pray for wisdom. All those are still needed. In fact, we need to continually sharpen our body, our mind to be able to follow the pace of the world.

But, to be successful it takes chance as King Solomon said. Chance as defined by Oxford Dictionary is "a possibility / probability of something happening, an opportunity, the occurrence of events in the absence of any obvious design or cause."

I got another way of looking at chance, I believe it is an opportunity given by God. We often find ourselves making choices through life. That is just the way God does thing, He is never pushy about choices we make. Those choices will inevitably include chances / opportunities. And it always up to us to make those choices, grab those chances. The the best gift God has given to human is "Freewill"

Being in the right place at the right time is not about luck. It is about your journey that takes you there. And what journey is that? Choice that include chance, or I prefer to call it opportunity. But, the preparation also matters. You can't possibly go on a journey / traveling without bringing any money, go for an exam before studying.

But then again, being prepared does not always guarantee success. Being able to take up the opportunity does, but it always come back to our preparation.
